Canterbury author Gordon Ogilvie says:
"Hearty congratulations on your Heathcote history... there is so much else that is new ... you've certainly made entertaining use of this resource facility, especially in relating tales of accidents and general mayhem in the early settlement. But above all, you've given the settler families themselves plenty of attention... Heathcote residents ought to be delighted. Your huge range of photos, all sharply reproduced, are another valuable feature. And the bibliography is a cracker.

To top it off, you write with clarity and wit. The book is immensely readable...

As a source book, [it] will be essential reading for decades..."
